My Mommy Is A Pharmicist

In 8 days, God willing, I will be inducted as President of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA).

NCPA was founded in 1898 and represents the pharmacist owners, managers, and employees of more than 22,000 independent community pharmacies across the United States.

118 years in existence and I will be the third woman President. I’m still not sure what to do or how to feel about this fun fact. Should I feel like all “Girl Power” proud? I am proud that my two daughters get to see Mom in this role and I don’t want to be seen as the 3rd woman President as much as I want to be seen as a great NCPA President. One who dug deep on her courage to show up with authenticity, energy & tenacity to fight for better patient & provider care.

I was kind of freaking out about all of this, until this morning. I was looking back to see what year I was inducted into leadership. It was so long ago. I found a paper written by my daughter, Stevie-Marie, when she was 8.

I honestly don’t remember this. But I saved it. Thankfully.

My mommy is a pharmicist. She absolutely loves it. My mommy loves helping people. My mommy orginisis things. She stays at her office frequently but it pays of. If she did not like it she would not do it! She tells people about diabeties. She tells them about type one and type two. She is a fonominal pharmicist. She propbibly gets stymied some times. Do you think she gets stymied?

She loves it her pathints go out to their car get their cell phone and dials up friends and they tell their friend “DeAnn Mullins of Mullins pharmacy is so good with people.” I bet people adore my mom because I do! I am so glad she is a pharmicist because I get to meet a lot of interesting people. She loves and cherishes her job. She loves people and she is also friendley. She gets to phill persciptions because if she was not at the pharmicy the staff would not give the pople their medison. I think the pashonts would not be very happy about that. Do you think they would be very happy about that! She has very friendley staff to. …Nothing and I mean nothing can split my mom apart from beaing a pharmicist that is what I like I mean love about my mommy.

Thank you Stevie-Marie. Those precious words and observations from your 8-year-old-self just reminded me of my WHY.

Every great idea, leader, movement and revolution has a WHY. It’s your purpose, cause or belief. Simply put, I believe in making the world a better place by helping people.

I believe in a world where prescribers, pharmacists, nurses and payers quit competing and start collaborating to design a value based system of care that benefits everyone.

Healthcare is broken and we need to fix it. So off I go. To make a difference for a noble profession full of caring people dedicated to helping make the world a better place. And on the days when I get stymied? I will remember that I’m a pharmicist who loves people.
